THE VEIL
Eight centuries of night.
A lost center.
A heartbeat that still endures.
What Is the Veil?
The Veil is neither a wall nor a curse in the traditional sense.
It is a wound in reality.
More than eight centuries ago, something fell upon the heart of the continent of Nightfall Dominion. It was not an invasion, nor an immediate cataclysm. It was silence. A gradual darkening. An alteration of the laws that governed time, memory, and meaning.
Where the greatest center of trade, knowledge, and human passage once stood, there now stretches a region where the day does not advance as it should, memories become distorted, and decisions seem to repeat in broken cycles.
That phenomenon was given a name: the Veil.
Before the Fall
Before the Veil, the center of the continent belonged to no kingdom.
It belonged to everyone.
Each month, for exactly four days, the roads of Nightfall Dominion converged there. Merchants, travelers, nomadic clans, and emissaries from distant realms gathered in a city without a banner. Trade took place, pacts were made, spies watched. What was necessary and what was forbidden changed hands with the same ease.
It was the pulse of the world.
Ancient maps marked it with precision. The routes were clearly drawn. Time moved forward normally.
Until it no longer did.
After the Fall
When the Veil settled, no one understood it at once.
There was no destruction visible from afar. No marching army, no sky set ablaze. Only a territory that could no longer be entered… and from which no one ever returned.
The first expeditions came back fragmented—or did not return at all. The accounts spoke of endless nights, of memories that vanished the moment they were spoken, of ancient artifacts that throbbed as if something within the Veil were calling to them.
In time, the world learned to go around it.
And to lie to itself about what it had lost.
The Veil in the Card Game
In Nightfall Dominion TCG, the Veil is not merely background lore.
It is the reason factions exist, bloodlines are at war, and artifacts still retain power. Many cards, abilities, and strategic decisions are directly or indirectly tied to what occurred at the lost center.
Some cards seek to control fragments of the Veil.
Others attempt to seal it.
Some… listen to it.
Each match is a different interpretation of how the world struggles to survive something it never fully understood.
What Is Known… and What Is Not
There is no consensus regarding the origin of the Veil.
Some believe it was a pre-Fall artifact activated by mistake.
Others maintain it was a conscious decision, made by someone who understood the consequences all too well.
There are those who claim the Veil did not fall upon the world… but was raised from within.
The complete truth is written in no book.
Not even in the oldest ones.
And perhaps, when it is finally known, it will no longer matter.
The world did not end.
It lost its center.
